ABSTRACT


This research aims (1) to develop three-dimensional model simulation of crystal structure and symmetry using SketchUp and (2) to determine the validity of the teaching media.Development model in this study refers to the model of Research and Development (R & D) by Borg and Gall. The model was adopted and modified by Sukmadinata into three main steps. The steps are (1) Preliminary Study (2) Product Development and (3) Product Testing. Nevertheless this study is only performed with the first two steps. The data were collected by means of questionnaires. The questionnaires consist of expert validation questionnaire and response questionnaire. The questionnaire of expert validation was filled out by a professor who is an expert in the relevant field. The response questionnaires were filled out by 15 students of State University of Malang who were taking the course of Solid State Physics in the academic year 2013/2014.The results of expert validation obtain average score of 7900% and it shows that the teaching media is valid. Whereas the student responses of teaching media obtain average score of 8483% and it shows that the teaching media is appropriate. It can be concluded from this study that the three-dimensional model simulation of crystal structure and symmetry is valid to be implemented in order to support course of Solid State Physics. The suggestion of this study is empirical test of teaching media for further research to determine its effectiveness in learning.
